Hair Growth Journey

(Working progress//Pics to be added)

When I was around 6/7, I had long hair that reached

Then one day, I went to this hairdresser to get my hair washed and etc. Back then, I didn't really know much about heat damage, and I was by myself, so I just let the hairdresser do her thing. After blowing out my hair, she then proceeded to cut the ends of my hair, claiming that she was cutting split ends. Wasn't really studying until when she was done, I saw exactly how much she had cut off. My hair was significantly shorter than before, and it's not like I asked her for a hair cut. I was furious, but sad because there's nothing I could do about it. After that, mom had me go to a different hair dresser.
During this period, my hair wasn't growing as fast as it used to.

Not the best picture, but this is years after my hair had been cut. My hair barely passed my shoulders, and it was damaged. (My hair was blown out in this photo)
Up until early 2017 when I starting using oils on my scalp instead of grease. Not saying that grease is bad, but I tried oils as they were more natural.

First oil I used was pure Jamaican castor oil, and it was amazing. At first, I would just apply generous amounts to my scalp (while it was braided (not with actual braids)) and soon, I'd be able to see new roots peeking up from the scalp. I was literally able to move the plaits around because of new growth. This oil, however, is very thick and finishes quickly (if you're heavy handed). So I ended up mixing it with a lighter oil like coconut, olive or shea oil, then applying it to my scalp. Unless you're doing a hot oil treatment and you'll be washing your hair soon, I wouldn't apply this oil from roots to ends. Like I said before, it is very thick, and would weigh your hair down.
The day before washing my hair, I'd use any oil and douse my hair from roots to ends (especially the ends), twist them, then sleep. Washing out all that oil the next day gives your hair a beautiful shine.

Because I wasn't ready to spend so much money on oil, I was looking for some cheap oils, even though they weren't fully natural. I don't remember the brand but I'll find out soon.

Early 2017, I used a banana mixture for a deep conditioning. I mixed:
-Banana
-Olive oil
-Coconut oil
I added that to my hair, and wore a plastic cap for 20 to 30 minutes, then washed it out.
This gave my hair a lighter feel, while still bringing out the curls in my hair.

When my hair was plait, I'd oil my scalp everyday.

From since August, here's my wash routine:

In the shower, I'd wet my hair then part it into sections. Starting with the back, I'd massage Shea Moisture shampoo into the roots. You don't really want to focus the shampoo on your ends, for this will dry them out. Your scalp is what really needs cleaning, so your roots can breathe. After doing this for all sections, I wash it out, then put in Mango and Lime conditioner. In sections again, I'd add this to my hair (roots to ends), and then detangle my hair with a wide tooth comb. After keeping it in for 15 minutes, I wash it out then immediately move on to adding my moisturizer.
Parting into sections (AGAIN), I add Curl to my hair and comb through it to make sure it's spread evenly. Then I twist them into big twists and leave them to air dry.
After, they've dried, they have a soft feel and then you can style however you want. The next day or next 2 days is when I add a tinyyy bit of oil on my scalp.

Later in the week, I'd use Sproil, Pink, and/or Coconut oil in my hair. Not a lot tho.
  • I avoid adding oil right after washing, because I wanna give my hair a chance to breathe.
  • Try not to be too heavy on the oil. Having this oil running down your neck and into your face is never the best feeling, and can cause acne. Just add enough to moisturize the scalp and roots.
  • Always use a wide tooth comb when combing your hair. Smaller combs can cause your hair to tangle into knots, that may have to be cut out.

What I hate the most about all of this, is how expensive it is to shop for hair products. Like damn, we only tryna have healthy hair out here.
